Wellness
The care behind the curriculum.
Wellness at Saint David’s begins with teachers who know each boy, coaches who model good character, and trusted adults who walk alongside boys through every stage of growth. From early lessons in self-awareness to deliberate conversations about making good choices, wellness is woven into the life of the school. Across the years, boys come to understand that strength isn’t only physical, and that a good man leads with both courage and compassion.
SOCIAL–EMOTIONAL LEARNING
At Saint David’s, character formation is built into the rhythm of every day. The school-wide Sophrosyne program provides time for explicit instruction focused on character, wellness, and emotional health—core values shared by the school and its families. Boys are guided by teachers who know them well and see who they’re becoming. Named for the ancient Greek virtue of Sophrosyne, the program helps give shape to the mission’s highest aim: “that they be good men.”
ADVISORY
In Grades Six through Eight, boys participate in an ongoing advisory program that supports academic growth, social–emotional health, and moral development. Advisors meet regularly with boys both one-on-one and in small groups to discuss themes from the Sophrosyne program and to help them reflect on the decisions and habits that shape good character.
DIGITAL LIFE & MEDIA LITERACY
Beginning in the early grades, Saint David’s boys learn to navigate an increasingly digital world with responsibility and discernment. The school day is intentionally phone-free, and screen use is limited to moments that genuinely support curricular goals and promote critical thinking. As they grow, boys engage more deeply with topics like media literacy, online safety, and digital decision-making—learning how their choices online reflect their values offline.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH
Boys are given time and space to move every day—through recess and, daily athletics, that emphasizes teamwork, effort, and joy. Just as important is what fuels them: Saint David’s food services provide a variety of balanced, nourishing meals that feature locally sourced and seasonal produce. This attention to care extends across the community, with a full-time school psychologist supporting both students and staff, and with faculty whose ongoing professional learning reinforces an inclusive, attentive culture of wellness.
On-site Nurses and Psychologist
In addition to our curricular program, our two full-time nurses and psychologist collaborate with teachers on boys' health and wellness.
