Saint David’s Libraries
A place to read. A place to think. A place to learn.
At Saint David’s, our three libraries are more than quiet spaces lined with bookshelves—they nurture curiosity, a love of reading, and the habits of scholarship. Here, boys move fluently between stacks and screens, learning to ask better questions and sharpen their research skills across print and digital platforms. Library visits are part of the school’s daily rhythm—woven into the curriculum from Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade.

WAGNER FAMILY LIBRARY
Lower School
In Lower School, library time marks the earliest steps in a boy’s reading journey. He learns to listen with care, borrow responsibly, and distinguish between fiction and fact. A love of reading develops through weekly exposure to a wide range of children’s literature.
By Grade Three, that love of books is joined by a new kind of engagement. Boys begin to explore nonfiction texts, learning to locate and evaluate information—from library shelves to online encyclopedias. They’re introduced to note-taking and citation, and begin to distinguish primary from secondary sources. Bit by bit, they build the habits of research they’ll need in the Upper School.
FERRAGAMO FAMILY LIBRARY
Upper School
In Upper School, the library becomes a space for both independent scholarship and collaborative inquiry. Boys continue to read widely for pleasure, while also developing the tools to navigate a more complex world of information.
Here, they learn to plan and pursue more ambitious research—gathering sources, evaluating their reliability, and citing them with care. They build habits of critical thinking that prepare them for the work ahead. And with guidance from faculty and the dedicated Upper School librarian, boys work side-by-side on group projects or settle in alone to focus.
The library remains open until 5:30 p.m., offering time and space to read, study, and think beyond the day’s final bell. It also supports faculty in developing curriculum and teaching strategies that deepen classroom learning.
HUME LIBRARY
Maiocco Art History Collection & Research Grade Eight
In their final year, Saint David’s boys gain access to the Hume Research Library—a dedicated space for research in the humanities and art history. The collection includes scholarly reference texts, art books, and primary materials that support independent scholarship in the arts and humanities.
Here, boys are expected to think critically, search thoughtfully, and use information responsibly—skills that prepare them for the intellectual demands ahead.
