Saint David’s first opened its doors to students in 1951, housed in a single townhouse on East 89th Street. Today, the school spans more than half a city block where boys arrive each day to a warm greeting from their Headmaster, stepping into the space that quickly becomes their home away from home.

The Campus

Sun-filled classrooms, a STEAM suite of science labs and art studios, three gyms, a fitness center, three libraries, three lunchrooms, and a 320-seat performing arts center provide boys spaces to learn, grow, and explore during their formative years.

Our Expansion:15 East 88th Street

We are thrilled that work is underway to renovate our recently acquired building on 15 East 88th Street. This significant expansion will add 12,000 contiguous square feet to our school, enhancing academic curriculum and addressing future programmatic endeavors. The footprint will also increase outdoor play space by a third, providing a critical outlet for our growing boys’ physical, social and most importantly, emotional well-being and development.

Saint David’s boys experience the city as their classroom: the school is steps from Central Park, the Guggenheim, The Met, the oyster beds of the East River, and just a short ride from numerous historic and cultural landmarks.

Learning Spaces

Classrooms

Sunlit, spacious classrooms provide an ideal setting for classwide and small group instruction.

Commons

Each day, Upper School students’ schedule includes a tech-free 30-minute period where boys connect with teachers about assignments and shared passions, play chess and cards with classmates, or visit the library to find a new favorite read.

STEAM Suite

Three labs and three art studios offer dynamic spaces for scientific thinking and creative exploration.

Backyard Playground

All Lower School boys have daily recess in addition to their sports period. A few minutes of outdoor play provides a valuable reset before students return to classes. The playground also serves as an outdoor classroom for science programming.

Sports Facilities

Price Gym

Saint David’s is fortunate to have three gyms on campus. Price Gym, our middle school-regulation space on the sixth floor, offers a perfect setting for young boys to learn sports fundamentals and for older boys to host interscholastic match-ups.

Benno Gym

Sports is part of the daily schedule at Saint David's -- and boys love that.

Central Park Fields

Fresh air and Central Park permits are a perfect combination for active, growing boys.

Otto-Bernstein Theatre

At Saint David’s, all boys take the stage throughout the year for performances and presentations.

The theater is an ideal setting for developing the three P’s: Poise, Projection, and Pacing.

Completed in 2018, the space comfortably seats 320 guests and is home to our Parents Association meetings, guest lectures, and school celebrations.

Chapel

Upon graduation, boys tell us that what they will miss most about Saint David’s are their friends, faculty, and Chapel talks, remarking that this quiet moment in an otherwise busy day listening to personal stories from faculty, alumni, and peers has been a deeply cherished experience.

In the spring of seventh grade, each student delivers a Chapel talk honoring figures – historical, familial, or personal – who’ve shaped the world for the better. In doing so, they reflect on their own values and aspirations.

Boys love traditions – and mothers do too. Each May, Grade Six boys and their moms fill the Chapel for our annual Mother’s Day chapel talk, delivered by an alumnus honoring his mother.

Libraries

Wagner Family Library

Lower School boys look forward to their weekly library visit where they can choose among over 11,000 books. Grade Three Early Morning Book Club is a popular time to listen to the latest novel being read by our beloved librarian.

Ferragamo Family Library

Students develop discerning research skills and also make time to capture the joy of independent reading in our Upper School library. The library remains open until 5:30 p.m. each day for boys who prefer to tackle homework before heading home.

Hume Library

Grade Eight boys are fortunate to have their own library which houses the Maiocco Art History Collection and other research texts that support their year-long humanities curriculum. The space also features a Harkness table for class discussions.
