Dr. Victoria Gilbert graduated with a BA in Art History & Fine Art from the University of Virginia, areas that have served her well in trying to understand the heart of different cultures. She grew up in three different countries and has been teaching foreign languages in elementary school (Spanish & French) as well as science for over thirty years in NYC. She obtained her doctorate from Teachers College in educational leadership from the Curriculum and Teaching department in 2005. In her dissertation, she studied what factors contribute to teacher efficacy because teachers who believe they can be successful with students are more likely to succeed. A frequent presenter on and author of integrated curricula and proficiency-based teaching, she was awarded NYSAFLT’s Teacher of the Year award in 2020 and AATSP’s award for Teacher of the Year in K-8 in 2024. Dr. Gilbert has taught FLES methodology class at NYU and served as lead instructor in NYU’s and GLP’s StarTalk program for teachers, as well as an Action Research methods class for world language teachers at Queens College. She currently serves as a Research Coordinator & Mentor, Instructional Coach, and Chair of Modern Languages at Saint David’s School.
