Living History in Rome, Assisi, and Florence
Saint David’s eighth graders set off for Italy, journals in hand and years of study behind them. Over ten days, they venture from Rome to Assisi to Florence, tracing the arc of Western art and architecture—from the ruins of the Forum to the frescoes of the Basilica of St. Francis, from Michelangelo’s David to the masterpieces of the Uffizi. Along the way, they study what they see, drawing, sketching, and writing each evening with focus in their study tour journals. It’s an expedition of aesthetic discovery and personal growth—one that deepens their bond as a class and leaves them better prepared, in mind and spirit, for the challenges and adventures ahead.
