Global Artist Exchange
Welcome to the Circus! Omega's Alexander Calder-inspired Circus installation is now on display in the school lobby. The work is the culminating project for the class's spring interdisciplinary study conducted through a partnership with Level Up Village to facilitate global collaborative learning. Over seven weeks, Saint David's boys exchanged brief videos with peers at a partner school in Argentina, describing typical school days, favorite activities, sports, and holidays. Our boys shared their learning about American artist Alexander Calder and watched videos from our partner school to learn about Lucila Manchado, an artist native to Argentina.
In Sophrosyne, our health, wellness and character course, boys learned to express their thoughts and feelings by examining ways that their experience was similar to and different from their peers in Latin America.
This unit was developed by Lower School Art Teacher Melanie Fidler through a Faculty Initiative Curriculum Development Grant she was awarded. She notes:"Through language, art, and technology, the Global Artist Exchange provided our boys and the students of our partner school with rich opportunities to investigate the art and perspectives of other cultures firsthand."
